The Black Rose Vol. 6

Wolf standing on rocks near a cloaked person holding a lantern walking toward a castle in fog

Welcome to The Black Rose, my lovely crypt dwellers.

This month’s writing update comes to you from the smoking ruins of my office, where I somehow managed to survive:

  • one bear fight (fictional, but emotionally real)
  • one book collection that nearly killed me
  • and at least three characters who refused to follow the plot and instead staged a coup

If you heard distant thunder last Tuesday, that was just me shouting “YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE A SIDE CHARACTER” at my laptop — which, by the way, fainted on me. No, really. It shut down and refused to start back up for hours. I swear I saw smoke and heard a tiny voice whisper, help me…

Anyway.

Tangled Moon Book Four is being slowly edited while I stitch together the pieces of Tangled Moon Book Eight, which is currently growing like a creature assembled in a lightning storm — limbs everywhere, heart beating strong, occasionally lunging off the table to bite me. I love it.

I fear it. I feed it snacks.

🖤

I am, however, thrilled to announce the birth of The Tangled Moon Chronicles: Volume One (Books 1–3). After giving each book a fresh line edit and creating a paperback edition for the collection, I nearly fainted a time or two myself. That said, the coming‑out party will be mid‑June. More details to follow. 🖤

If I don’t reply to your comments right away, assume I’ve been dragged into the woods by my own plot. I’ll claw my way back eventually.

Until next month, Darcy

  1. What a delightfully chaotic update—truly worthy of The Black Rose. 🖤

“I love the way you describe your writing process like a monster you’re both nurturing and fleeing from. That’s not chaos. That’s art being honest. Also, the laptop fainting made me laugh out loud—and feel seen.”
“Mid-June for the Tangled Moon Chronicles collection? Marking my calendar and clearing a shelf. You’ve earned a faint or two.”

Now go claw your way back from those woods. We’ll leave the crypt lights on for you.
