The Black Rose Vol. 4

Welcome to the heart of the Tangled Moon, where immortals never sleep and writers rarely do.

I have for you…

I have a special song for you this month that holds emotional weight for me:

Deliver Me by Sonia Dada

It’s an old song, featured in the second episode of Highlander, season one. I’ve always loved this song—and that scene—where Richie is walking around the city looking for clues that might lead him to his family roots, only to find he has none. He doesn’t know why yet, that it’s because he’s an immortal, and has no parents.

Filming has begun on the Highlander reboot. Will it be great, will it suck? I’ve no idea. I have mixed feelings about it. It’s my favorite movie and has had an influence on my work, so a reboot might be a hard sell for me, but I’m trying to remain open nonetheless.

I am now over halfway through the first draft of Insurrection, Tangled Moon Book Seven. Yes, seven! It has—no surprise—occurred to me that it’s time to stop calling this a series, so I’ve updated it to The Tangled Moon Chronicles. To call it a series falls short of what it really is: an ongoing supernatural suspense.

I’m creating a personal chronicle for each character, especially the vampires, so I can keep track of their movements through time. I’m also starting a Crazy Wall. That’s when you use push pins and string to connect points on a map. I’m doing this for all my characters because they move around a lot, and this will help me keep tabs on where everyone is at any given time. It will also map out how they relate to each other. I’ll post pictures when it’s finished.

Because Tangled Moon is getting so big, I’m going to slow down the publishing schedule for my historical romances. There are two more books in that series, and they will happen, just later than previously planned.

Beyond that, I may be retiring the historical novels. Never say never, but I have no plans beyond the four books. I always knew it could come to this, and as Tangled Moon gets bigger and more complicated, it’s better for me to focus on that.

The first chapter of Entangled: Chapter One.

I recently watched Wake Up Dead Man, and I really enjoyed it. The main character is a priest, Father Jud, who’s been sent to a small parish as punishment for punching a fellow priest in the face. 🤭 Once he’s there, he finds that every member of the parish is, essentially, crazy. Or you could say, crazy‑interesting. 😂 There’s even a novelist who has run out of words and turned instead to conspiracy theories. He digs a moat around his house to symbolically protect himself. 😉

When Monsignor Wicks is murdered (or is he?) everything comes to light. Each member of the congregation—including Father Jud—has an even more sinister past…

If you haven’t seen it already, I’d definitely recommend it.

That’s it for this month. As always, you can reach out to me through the comment section. If I don’t get back to you right away, it’s because I opened a “quick reference book” and woke up three days later surrounded by notes I don’t remember writing…
