One step at a time, and one foot in front of the other. I’ve talked a little about my daughter who is now in her last two weeks of basic training. She had to go on this long ruck where she had to carry nearly half her body weight. 😩 She’s a tiny little thing. She was at the end of the line, one of the slower ones, but she did it, and males bigger than she is washed out.
How did she do it? She told me this: “I just kept putting one foot in front of the other, and that’s all I’d let myself think about.”
She’s been a huge source of inspiration to me this summer as the both of us wade into the proverbial water that feels too deep.
So I’m taking a page from her playbook. Sometimes the young know better than we do, because they’re not dragging along behind them decades of disappointment.
That’s how I’m going forward, one day at a time, one step at a time, even when I don’t know what the next step will hold for me. I’m just going to keep putting one foot before the other and refuse to think about anything else.
