Tangled Moon:

Part Three

…She got up, avoiding the shards. What the hell was happening to her? Was she hyperventilating? She’d never done that before.

“Please don’t,” he said, coming around to her.

She put her hand out and he stopped exactly one arm length away. She could feel him, and he was still breathing just like she was. She stepped back, this time aware at least enough to watch where she was going. She inched out of the light and another lamp flicked on as if just for her. She sat on an antique green velvet settee.

He followed like they were on a string and she put her arm out again to stop him. He came down, sitting on the floor, closer to her level like that. At least he was listening to her now instead of just grabbing her however he wanted.

“Please,” he repeated.

She couldn’t, this was just too much, and if he couldn’t stop hyperventilating then neither could she. No bother that he wouldn’t pass out from it but still, double standards and all. She put her face in her hands hoping maybe she could drown him out but it wasn’t working. She couldn’t explain it but it was like he touched something inside of her, like striking a chord and now it vibrated through her.

“You’re going to pass out again,” he warned.

“I know but I can’t stop if you don’t stop.”

“I…” Then he stopped breathing altogether…
