Danielle finished up, putting everything away. Kendra had pulled a blanket over him. All in all it wasn’t so bad. The bites were difficult for her to deal with. As his female, she was the only one who should be biting him.
Between her bites and the ones his uncle had given him, he was beginning to look like a stag that had fought his way through one too many rutting seasons. The human in her didn’t like it. He was too beautiful to be all marked up like that.
She stood there a little longer, feeling herself come down from it all. Reaching out, she carefully brushed his hair off his face. He’d missed a couple of haircuts recently, too distracted by her to care.
“Do you want me to call Vesper?” Kendra asked cautiously, as if afraid to interrupt her.
“Yes, thank you. Check on the babies too while you’re…” Something shifted in her head. “Oh, no,” she gritted. Danielle looked at her hands. She was shaking. Yup, now she was going to lose it. Every feeling she’d been avoiding was needling over her skin.
“Whoa, okay,” Kendra said, catching her before her knees gave out. “I’m going to take you to our room. I know, you won’t like the smell but it’ll have to do.”
“I’ll make sure the window is open,” she heard Alessandro say. Kendra lifted her up into her arms as if she weighed nothing.
“I’m okay,” Danielle said, realizing she didn’t sound okay. Even her voice was shaking. “I’m just going into shock. No problem. Don’t worry about me. I can take it.”
She was seeing stars…
