
He smiled a practiced kind of smile that people who were taught manners wore when introducing themselves. “Captain Jonas Sutherland, once under the command of General George Washington.” He ducked his head.
“Good God,” she breathed.
His smile changed. It was natural now. He was a man enjoying the fact that he could impress a woman. “Thank you.”
She felt her face warming at his expression. She took a breath, and got a good dose of his scent. There really was something… She leaned a little closer across the table. She couldn’t name his scent. There was a distinctly masculine undertone to it, but it didn’t smell bad. It smelled really good.
“Well, that does explain your taste in décor,” she said, her voice softening as of its own accord.
“I’m an antique dealer.”
“Pretty good at it, huh?”
“You’d be surprised.”
She couldn’t believe they were having this conversation, especially like this.
