What is your career plan?

Daily writing prompt
What is your career plan?

None.

Nothing. I have none and don’t care to.

I’ve wasted too much of my life on things that can’t happen. Now it’s time for me to live my life while I still have it to live. My spouse has had and still has an ever-expanding career. That used to make me jealous since all I ever seemed to do was fail at things, but now I’m just going with the flow. It could be worse. I am living in a first world country. I have a house, a car, and a refrigerator full of food. All of it came to me the old fashioned way; marriage.

This means I’m not cool and I’m not a boss bitch babe. I have no side-hustle. Hell, I don’t even have a hustle, other than this blog, repotting my bazillion houseplants, and cleaning up that hairball the cat just left for me on the floor. 😮

  5. Awesome, Darcy! It’s okay to live your life and just be you. You go girl! (Plus I think you’re very successful at the writing thing, so I don’t think you’ve wasted your time at all.)

Thank you. I guess it’s all about context. I know I can write but I can’t talk people into paying for it…. So not a career, or a job even. 🤷

  7. Unless you remove money from the equation completely. I know that’s not always a comfortable (or even possible) thing. I know the things on which our society bases success. You seem to have your other ends taken care of, fortunately, so the drive to money and the outward appearances of “success” must be important to you (and to me and everyone else, of course) for some other reason. But I think we need to remind ourselves that money and fame do not last, and you can’t take it with you. Writing these stories that are obviously important to you, and sharing them with others—what if that’s your purpose? More importantly, what if that’s enough? What if reading and writing are your commerce, and your reason for being? Can you say they’re not? Can you say that money is more important than love? Because if you do, you (and all of us who spend a great deal of our time trying to match up with other people’s definition of ”success”) may possibly be missing something vital in the human experience.

Well said. I do agree that taking money out of the equation is probably a necessity. I/we seem to be inundated on every side by reminders that if you don’t get paid you’re not worth much. Turning a blind eye to the culture is hard sometimes. (Thank you BTW for all your support.)
