
…Her head cleared and she pushed away from the table, backing off. Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire. Of course he’d acted like he understood she’d been abducted by vampires. He was one of them.
“You… You’re… That’s how you knew I was there.”
Her vision was blurring. She fought it, not wanting to pass out again. Really, what a stupid way for the brain to handle trauma, she thought to herself just as her knees gave way.
He caught her. Catherine blinked away the stars in her vision and forced herself to take a deep breath.
“You’re one of them,” she said.
She pushed on his chest and he released her, carefully like he was afraid she’d fall flat on her face as soon as he did. She pulled away. He was different from the others that had tied her up. She was just another body to them. This one at least tried to treat her like a person. But that didn’t make him safe…
