Rescue Rats? πŸ€(Part Three)

Part Two

Tangled Moon:

The rats had gathered together and disappeared between two buildings, a black cloud of little bodies. Did rats do that? All she could do was to keep moving, no idea where she was going, just knowing that she needed to get away while she could.

Catherine glanced back as she walked. The crowd was calming down now.  She heard someone say that they were going to upload their video. They wanted to go viral. People would be people, she guessed.

She turned forward, running into a hard body in the middle of the sidewalk.

Hands caught her upper arms a second before her face could collide with his sternum. Something… she knew that scent. She looked up into ethereally blue eyes.

β€œYou,” she managed while her brain was still able to form coherent thoughts. Between the vampires, rats, and now him, it was only a matter of time before she lost it. β€œWhere did you come from?”

He didn’t answer her question. β€œI need to get you out of here,” he said, taking her by the arm with a firm grip and leading her down the street.

She tried to pull free but he wasn’t having it. She didn’t know anything about this man, just that she’d run into him awhile back and he’d been really hard to forget. She’d never expected to see him again.

She looked him over. He was big, maybe big enough to give a vampire second thoughts.

β€œI…” She panted as he practically dragged her along. β€œBack there…” It would’ve helped if she could manage to put a sentence together.

β€œI know,” he said anyway. She remembered his voice even, like she’d heard it a hundred times before. Man, but she had it bad. β€œI came to get you, Catherine,” he said…
