Synthetic

Songs from my playlist: Synthetic. Danielle has a disorder I called Arrested Development. It happens to werewolves that are raised human and then begin to transition into the wolf without any idea what’s happening to them. It traumatizes the brain creating a split personality. She has her adult self, and then a younger version of herself in her head, that thinks she’s seventeen, confused, and scared.

Her disorder was affected by her second pregnancy, and almost caused her to miscarry. (I discussed this in another post but for those that missed it; her disorder can put Lothar into some… well, let’s just say that when she’s in her younger personality she looks to him for direction and when it gets really bad will start calling him daddy.)

They had to be separated for a short time but it triggered her and things went bad fast.

Danielle turned around when she heard the BMW tires on gravel. Lothar was leaving her behind. She waited, thinking he’d glance back, but he didn’t.

No, no, no, a little voice said inside of her head. Daddy, don’t leave me. I won’t run off anymore. I won’t… wake up naked and shivering on the bare ground with no idea how I got there.

Her adult half answered back. What the hell are you doing now? Why won’t you just leave me be? Aren’t things hard enough as it is? Why harass me like this?

No… don’t leave… no, I can’t. Please don’t leave me. I’m not a demon. Don’t let that man near me.

Danielle hadn’t thought about it in years, the time her adoptive dad had been convinced she was possessed and had an exorcist visit the house. He’d been scary as hell, this old man in a black robe, sprinkling her with holy water and commanding her in Latin. It had made her lose control. She’d been afraid she’d shift into a wolf and hurt someone, so she’d run off instead.

When she came back home hours later her parents had packed her a bag and left it on the front porch. She wasn’t welcome there anymore.

That was when she’d called Lothar. He’d come for her, taking her home with him. She actually had hoped he’d sleep with her that night. A bad idea after all her trauma, but somehow she’d known he could make it better too.

She looked back one more time, at nothing. He was gone. By the time she’d turned again she could smell Nick. He was walking up to her, all wide where Lothar was lean. Nature made up for the lack of shifting abilities by making Carriers huge.

He ducked his head as he approached her. “It’s okay,” he said gently, like he would with one of the children.

Oh, wonderful.

He hesitated to touch her and then did it anyway, taking her by the arm. “We’re going to take you to Vesper.”…

Repeat after me: I (state name) am so addicted to Darcy that I will sell my firstborn, all of my blood, and my soul to support her blog…

  1. I have been wondering a little while how you bring these complex characters to life. is it emotional intuition, something different … they are moving, talking people with issues and hopes and sure, darkness, and all so alive.

Yeah I know. 🤷 they come to me and trust me with their stories. It’s a humbling experience for me. Weird, I know. Thanks for saying this. It’s good for me to know I’m not the only one that sees that.

  7. A poem for you dear Darcy.

” Was a rare orange moon,

the shapeshifters were dancing in the deep forest.

Pretty Darcy could be wolf, could be the watching owl?

    Johnnie was the coyote always.

Darcy knew the dreamer, loved the dance of the forest.

She went to the Coyote and she asked him.

    Trickster, what do you see?

He told her. The orange moon open the doors to the unknown.

Be careful, the real faces of many can be seen.

    More demons than angels.”
