Songs from my playlist: Synthetic. Danielle has a disorder I called Arrested Development. It happens to werewolves that are raised human and then begin to transition into the wolf without any idea whatโs happening to them. It traumatizes the brain creating a split personality. She has her adult self, and then a younger version of herself in her head, that thinks sheโs seventeen, confused, and scared.
Her disorder was affected by her second pregnancy, and almost caused her to miscarry. (I discussed this in another post but for those that missed it; her disorder can put Lothar into someโฆ well, letโs just say that when sheโs in her younger personality she looks to him for direction and when it gets really bad will start calling him daddy.)
They had to be separated for a short time but it triggered her and things went bad fast.
Danielle turned around when she heard the BMW tires on gravel. Lothar was leaving her behind. She waited, thinking heโd glance back, but he didnโt.
No, no, no, a little voice said inside of her head. Daddy, donโt leave me. I wonโt run off anymore. I wonโtโฆ wake up naked and shivering on the bare ground with no idea how I got there.
Her adult half answered back. What the hell are you doing now? Why wonโt you just leave me be? Arenโt things hard enough as it is? Why harass me like this?
Noโฆ donโt leaveโฆ no, I canโt. Please donโt leave me. Iโm not a demon. Donโt let that man near me.
Danielle hadnโt thought about it in years, the time her adoptive dad had been convinced she was possessed and had an exorcist visit the house. Heโd been scary as hell, this old man in a black robe, sprinkling her with holy water and commanding her in Latin. It had made her lose control. Sheโd been afraid sheโd shift into a wolf and hurt someone, so sheโd run off instead.
When she came back home hours later her parents had packed her a bag and left it on the front porch. She wasnโt welcome there anymore.
That was when sheโd called Lothar. Heโd come for her, taking her home with him. She actually had hoped heโd sleep with her that night. A bad idea after all her trauma, but somehow sheโd known he could make it better too.
She looked back one more time, at nothing. He was gone. By the time sheโd turned again she could smell Nick. He was walking up to her, all wide where Lothar was lean. Nature made up for the lack of shifting abilities by making Carriers huge.
He ducked his head as he approached her. โItโs okay,โ he said gently, like he would with one of the children.
Oh, wonderful.
He hesitated to touch her and then did it anyway, taking her by the arm. โWeโre going to take you to Vesper.โโฆ
Repeat after me: I (state name) am so addicted to Darcy that I will sell my firstborn, all of my blood, and my soul to support her blogโฆ
