His Dead Body (And What She’ll do to it)

Worth Fighting For:

England, 1192

…He wondered once again if this was the same woman he’d left last night. β€œYou just want me for my dog,” he teased.

β€œYou do come with her highest of recommendations. No, I think I’d expected to see you this morning.” She shrugged. β€œSitting here alone gives me too much time to think.”

The smart thing to do would be to recommend some books be brought up from the library for her. But then again, Matthew wasn’t always smart. β€œYou can move into my room as soon as you’re ready.”

He heard her swallow audibly. She stiffened in his arms and then seemed to force herself to relax.

β€œYou can be in my chamber and not bed me,” he told her. He might not sleep very well, but then he wasn’t anyway so what did it matter? Actually, that wasn’t a bad idea. β€œYou’ll be safer once you’re with me,” he told her.

β€œI… I suppose I would be safer.”

He felt a but in there somewhere. β€œBut?”

β€œBut you won’t be safe.”

β€œLet me deal with that part.”

β€œI swear to God, Matthew, if you make me feel something for you and then get yourself killed I will…” She lifted her head to look at him, her brow furrowing as she thought about how to threaten his dead body.

β€œI’ll haunt you day and night, and you can tell me repeatedly what a fool I was,” he said for her.

β€œYou have a deal,” she said…

  1. Although I quit reading romance long back, your stories may just point me to the romance section at the bookstore soon. Keep up the great work… πŸ™‚

  5. I always, always, struggled with conversations in writing. I always thought too hard about trying to convey the way i thought the characters should feel upon the reader. I couldn’t ever seem to let an entire paragraph go at just 4 or 5 words.

Yes, I get that. I was taught that fiction should be mostly dialogue then action then monologue and lastly info dump. Let the reader feel their own way through. I used to take creative writing classes.
