I’m not sure if this is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make but it’s a reoccurring one.
I have to choose daily whether to dedicate my life to my writing, or to have a life. It would seem that the choice would be obvious, right? Create a balance. Dedicate a certain number of hours per day to blogging, doing recordings, editing recordings, writing new material, editing new material—and then be done with it.
Unfortunately I’m surrounded by people who seem to think it’s perfectly normal to work twelve to fourteen hours a day, and I keep slipping back into their habits. I’m pretty sure that twelve to fourteen hours makes them workaholics.
Do I need to be one too just because they are?
Over working will ruin my ability to create quality content. I can’t expect my brain to go at that level non-stop. Eventually it’ll shut off and I’ll lose my creativity. In a past paced society where if you snooze you lose, it’s easy to miss the point of life altogether.
I should be writing because I love it; for the thrill of the story, to feel my characters deep within. Not to keep up with everyone else or to get somewhere, wherever somewhere is supposed to be anyway.
