We’ll Still have each Other

Worth Fighting For

England 1192

…”I probably should ask him. Maybe I don’t because I’m afraid to hear the answer. It feels amazing as things are. Do I want to ruin the fantasy?”

“Eventually, I think you’ll have to. It’ll eat at you if you don’t. Besides, fantasies always end,” her brother said.

“I don’t want it to end.”

“Then you might have to know how real it is.” He paused. “I’m sure you’ll say no, but I can talk to him about it for you.”

“No. I have to do this myself,” Alana said.

“I thought as much.”

She glanced back at John. He was near Chester, but now her horse was standing dejectedly with his head down, eyeing John. Chester would learn soon that there was no defying John the Merciless.

Alana brushed her hair out of her face. “Come give me a hug. I could use the support.”

Matthew looped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer. Alana pressed her cheek against his shoulder.

“No matter what happens,” she told him, “we’ll still have each other, right?”

“Always.”…

  2. I’m amazed by how often I read stuff on here and we’re all talking about the same things, like we’re all part of one mind or something. (Not talking about daily prompts here.) The theme of the day today certainly seems to be hanging on to fantasy in a cruel unforgiving world . . .

Carl Jung believed in something he called the collective consciousness, so you may be right. 😉

  5. I think we were just all assimilated by the Borg and are in compartments on the Borg cube and don’t know it!

  6. The collective consciousness is indeed a thing. For example, here in Nevada we have sports books. I’m not a gambler, but I know the line (or spread) of a game is not set by the casinos—it’s actually set by the amount of money being bet on one team or the other. And it is amazing how often that “line” is exactly the difference in score between the two teams, a total that no one would be able to guess before the game, but a figure that all the bettors working together find the casinos have hit right on the money by the time the game is over. It’s downright weird. I like it more when we’re the ones doing it!

It is pretty cool how we’re linked without realizing it.
