…Matthew’s gaze flicked to the front of the hall, where men and women were beginning to file in for the evening meal already. He leaned toward John. “You might want to ask her to eat with you from now on, or she’ll be taken tomorrow. Trust me on this.”
Three of John’s young knights, hardly more than boys really, had noticed her already. John glared at them until Justin, his youngest knight saw it. The boy’s eyes widened in apology. Justin whispered to the other two, and then they ducked their heads to him and turned away.
“Well, that took care of that,” John mouthed, cracking his knuckles.
“It won’t stop them all,” Matthew whispered. “Wait until you have her on the training field. Keeping men away from her is a full time job.”…
