What Historical Event Fascinates me the Most?

Daily writing prompt
What historical event fascinates you the most?

I‘m drawn to the Middle Ages.

That’s not an event but an era.

That’s all right. I’ll run with it anyway. 🤪

I really like Robin Hood (big surprise since Worth Fighting For is set in that period). I know, Robin Hood wasn’t real, other than in my imagination, but it was set in a real time and place, where order is fighting against chaos. There’s law but too many ways around it. A game of thrones beneath a facade of civilized behavior. I love writing in that era because it gives me a gray area between chivalry and midnight assignations, the church’s law—and then reality.

That probably sounds like an awful time to have lived in, and it probably was, but as an author it gives me so much to work with, and besides, who doesn’t like a lady fair, and a few good sword fights?

  3. “A facade of civilized behavior” describes the Dark Ages perfectly.

It was a harder world then. I can see how that would provide a lot of possibilities for story telling.

  5. Well…I could be your Robin hood take you out of the imagination (theory) and take you (in practical) to secret places in the jungle where I (as in Robin hood) used to defeat my enemies

You could turn that into a new story. Maybe you should write it.

I’m a fan of the Middle Ages too 🙌 Regarding Robin Hood there has to be some credence in his existence as he’s mentioned in a variety of different stories from all over the country. It’s said he didn’t exclusively stay in Sherwood Forest. I’m from Rochdale which is about 100 miles away. There’s a tale of a group of witches that lived in a dell (a wood) and they were visited by Robin Hood who asked them to curse the Sheriff of Nottingham and King John. It’s maybe fairytales but the constant mention of the same person is fascinating

Oh that’s so cool. I’d love to actually visit Sherwood forest one day. When I was a kid I loved Robin Hood. I’d run around in the woods with my dog pretending to be either Maid Marian or a merry ‘man’ depending on my mood.

There’s a trail that you can walk through Sherwood that’s meant to be the route of the carriages that he robbed. If you do get a chance to visit let me know as I’d like to visit too. I’ll see if I can find a link

Yeah it looks really interesting. There’s so much history all around us. Near to my house there’s a new development being built and they’ve found Roman artefacts along with stuff from the Iron Age too.

While I prefer to live in the US, English is second on my list. I watched a show about artifacts all over England.

I’d love to travel to America. Random story but my friends dad writes books about the American civil war and the uniforms that the soldiers wore. I modelled two for his book. Unfortunately that’s as close as I have got to America 🙁
What part do you live in?

Cool, I’d love to visit New York. Yeah, I modelled the uniforms. There was about 30 of us in total who did it
