What historical event do I remember?
Several of them, but the one I want to talk about was a local event.
I live in a small town. Across the street from me is a river that’s changed since the town was first settled, around the time of the Revolutionary War.
My house is two hundred years old. Yeah, two hundred… Ten years ago the river flooded and the whole village was under water. All of those buildings and houses, all of that history.
I was blessed, that my house was built up on a little hill (maybe that was planned by the builders? I’m not sure). My home was an island during the flood, but my house itself was untouched. Anyone living in town at the time had to rebuild and restore. To this day the town still looks different… more careworn than I remember; we’ll never get all of that history back. All we can do is repair it.
