Heโd shown her around the house good-naturedly. Was there such a thing as a good-natured vampire? Catherine felt a little bad about it in retrospect. This place seemed to be stirring up a lot of things in him that she knew heโd rather pretend were either long forgotten, or didnโt bother him anymore.
Truth was he did care. She wondered if anyone else knew that about him. Jonas was the ultimate loner, and if his relationship with Lazarus had been anything like hers had been with her father, then there were things about himself heโd been so criticized for that he kept them hidden far away from anyone else.
She sipped her wine, watching him there, still willing to keep answering her millions of questions. Just like guarding her life from his family, it seemed heโd accepted that this had to happen.
She shifted a little closer to him, not quite but almost touching him. Catherine tucked her feet beneath her. She still had her sneakers on and she stopped to pull them off, letting them drop to the floor. She tucked her feet back under her. He smelled really good, too good. There really was something about him meant to draw her in. Catherine shifted closer before sheโd thought about it. It was a compulsion.
He reached toward her, meeting her eyes before actually touching her. She nodded and he drew her into him, arranging her legs a bit so she was sitting on his lap. He caught her wine glass and tipped it back up before she spilled it all over the both of them.
โOops,โ she said.
