If I had a million dollars to give away, I wouldn’t give it to an organization. I’ve heard too many stories about people doing that, and then having it get all weird; other people treating them differently, or the organization treating them like they’re somehow more important than regular people.
It could also turn bad if they squandered the money or pocketed it. (Which does happen, unfortunately.)
Instead, I would divide the money into equal portions, and start trust funds (Is that what it’s called?). I’d do this for each of my children so they can use it to better their lives with. College, starting a business, buying a house. Things like that. I know, it could still get weird or cause dissention between them, but that’s the best way I can think of.
Money does things to people, changes them, so I’d definitely consider that, before giving it away.
