When I Felt out of Place

Daily writing prompt
Tell us about a time when you felt out of place.

When I was a kid my teacher called my mom saying she was concerned because during recess Iโ€™d sit off by myself doodling in my little notebook and observing the other kids like I was watching TV.

My mom, bless her heart, said something like, โ€œSo, what? Maybe she just doesnโ€™t want to be a part of their nonsense.โ€

I donโ€™t think that teacher liked my mom very much, but as far as Iโ€™m concerned she was just being a good mom.

I know how to socialize, so itโ€™s not that. I really donโ€™t even mind people. I get exhausted by them after a while but that doesnโ€™t mean I donโ€™t like them. My brain is just wired to work alone for long periods of time on a focused project; like writing novels.

Somehow this also makes me feel like Iโ€™m on the outside looking in, but then again, maybe Iโ€™m just observing human nature.

I know how that goes. My in-laws are okay and all, but I’m not actually related, and that’s felt.

  5. I can definitely relate! Some people just donโ€™t get it. I love people, but I get overwhelmed and exhausted if I take in to much activity at one time. Sometimes I like to sit on the side lines and observe just like you were doing as a kid. If that makes me weird so be it! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Great post!

It’s not bad. I don’t even mind it that way.

  13. Pretty much my entire 58 years of life, I have felt out of place – maybe out of time. Considering that my grandparents (not greats or great greats) were born in the 1890s and my parents in the 1920s, it’s probably not unexpected.

I can relate to that. My grandfather was born in the early 1900’s, and he and I were close. My dad never saw him without gray hair.
